Learn the Lingo

  • Bear – A market participant who believes that prices are likely to fall and is therefore      looking to sell financial instruments.(This is inter-changeable with seller).
  • Bull – A market participant who believes that prices are likely to rise and is therefore looking to buy financial securities. (Interchangeable with buyer)
  • Bearish – Negative sentiments held by bears or sellers for prices
  • Bullish – An optimist outlook for prices held by bulls or buyers
  • Moving average- A trend following indicator which smoothes the price to show the direction of the underlying trend
  • Overbought- A level of price corresponding to a security’s lowest price levels.
  • Oversold-   A level of price corresponding to a security’s lowest price levels.
  • Trend-   A succession of higher highs or lower lows determined by price action.
  • Trend line- A sloping line drop between two or more prominent points on a price chart
  • Volatility- Instability and unpredictability in a security’s price movement.
